If I'm an going to be turning 16 in July, can I be emancipated from my parents? I have recently moved to Texas from Florida, but my boyfriend is still living in Florida, he is 18, but we have been dating for Four years. I do not want to wait 3 more years to be with the person I love, so am i able to be emancipated? I have a job, I attend school, and I am making good grades, so what would it take? I am currently in Texas.

It would take your parents giving you permission to move out of the house.

In Texas, you cannot be emancipated at 16 unless you are ALREADY living away from home, and in Florida, you cannot be emancipated at any age below 18 unless YOUR PARENTS sign the emancipation petition, and even then it is by no means a sure thing.

You can't even fathom the bizarreness of you dating the same person since age 12. Being away from him will either make your relationship stronger, or make you realize how much better you are apart.
