What is the name of your state? TX

I have a (very) small embroidery side business and when I bought my machine a year ago I also bought some embroidery designs on ebay.

I just received a letter from the "Embroidery Software Protection Coalition" which is threatening to sue me (for up to $30,000 per design, of which there are probably several thousand on these 2 discs) with regards to my purchase of these designs unless I contact them within 10 days and agree to: surrender all copies of the designs; give them a written statement of future non-use, and "pay a NOMINAL monetary sum to the ESPC for (my) past wrongful conduct and the damages incurred by (their) members".

Now, I fully understand the "ignorance of the law" thing, but I'm wondering why these people are going after me when they should be focusing on the person who sold the discs if they were "pirating" the software! Also, this "nominal monetary sum" they want sounds a lot like extortion to me, or else maybe an outright scam. Should I see an attorney before I call these people? Thanks.

At the very least do a good search to see if they really are a legitimate organization with any authority to do anything.
