What is the name of your state?
Georgia The city were we live has been trying to purchase our home. It is registered on the National Historical Registry. The city wanted it for a museum and park, but now since they decided to take it by eminet domain the paper work said they were going to demolish the home and use the property for a parking lot. Should we contact the historical registry before they accually do this are just go along with the progam. We really hate to see this house destroyed.

ya contact the historical registry immediatly. A parking lot? Eminent Domain is soppose to be used when it is in the interest of the town...but how is a parking lot soppose to be in the interest of the town? These new domain laws are a bunch of crap...but you gotta love that one community where a supreme court judge lives...they are proposing to use that law to seize the judges house...haha

Since Kelo V. New London in which the U.S. Supreme Court broadly expanded the rights of Eminent Domain there have been a plethera of such lawsuits. Yours is not unique even in Georgia.

And there is no automatic exemption for lands on the historical register.

**A: solution- negotiate with the city to move the home to another location and then buy the lot. House remains not destroyed and the city gets the parking lot.

What is "historical" about the home? Isn't it on wheels? All you need to do is remove the aluminum skirting, and hitch the old pick-up truck to it. Then tow it to a new location.
