I want to pose this question to you and would like to know if I have any grounds for legal steps.

My profession is in the IT sector. My employer offers to send 2 other employees I work ( or worked) with to training. But I have never been allowed to go to any kind of training. On one conversation with my boss I was told that he wanted to help further the career of (let's say Tom). When I asked him what about my career he told me "I need you to stay just where are. So to me this is telling he was sacraficing me career to help further another employee's career. Training is very essential for the IT sector. Without getting the training I need I could not further my career or get good opportunities further down the line. Otherwise because I did not get the training and degrees or certifications that come with training this has limited me to any well paying job opportunities that I might want to pursue. I was basically being held back. The irony is the employees who got training left the company short after. So when that happened I decided to go and get training on my own and paid out of my pocket even though it is company policy they would cover further education. Eventually the company did reimburse me the tuition. But the point is I had to fight and claw just to get the training and I stayed with the company after that until recently they had layoffs. But one of the persons that left they hired back and worked him back into the organization until they could get rid of me.

Do you think I might have a case? According to the EQUAL OPPORTUNITY POLICY this is a valid reason for a case.

I live in San Diego, CA.
