What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

I am getting to that age where I need to start thinking about my assets and estate planning. Just wondering what the steps are and is it really necessary to see a lawyer? Thanks for the help/suggestions! :D

The State Bar has a few articles worth reading on its website.

Also, there are many California attorneys with detailed websites describing the process. You might also look for a California specific book on the subject.

You don't need an attorney to prepare valid documents, but unless you plan on devoting the many hours it will take to educate yourself to the point where you can DIY intelligently, plan on getting competent help.
