Estate/Trust FEIN tax number

Does an estate and an irrevocable trust share the same FEIN tax number? If you have a dividend paying stock that is put into a trust after shareholder's death, the dividends would seem part of the estate prior to transfer? In regard to future income tax returns, I thought there would be a estate return and an trust return filed. Therefore, I would think you would need separate FEIN numbers?

There is nothing wrong with them having the same numbers, since they are all related to the estate of only one decedent, and having the same number avoids confusion.
