What is the name of your state? NC

A coworker has been renting out an extra bedroom to a college student. The parents of the student pay coworker monthly. No written lease.

Coworker discovered that student has been stealing personal items (clothes, shoes, digital camera) and has asked roommate to leave within the next 48 hrs. She is now worried that this would be an illegal eviction.

How should she best procede?

Thanks in advance

By following the LL/T laws for the state of NC. Or press charges if she can prove he took them.
