i own a duplex in iowa and have gone to court to have a tenant evicted. I have a writ for possesion that the judge in small claims set to commence on 4/17. I requested the extended time in hopes that the tenant will move on her own. I have contacted the sherriffs office and have set an appointment to take possesion that day. What do I have to do with her stuff if she doesnt move it on her own, can i take possesion and move her stuff at a later date-its hard to line up movers if you are not sure you need them.

My response:

Unfortunately, that's all you *can* do at this point, is wait and see. Should your tenant leave things behind, write back to us in that eventuality, and we'll let you know what the "reality" of Iowa law is in these regards.

Thanks for writing.
