Last year I went thru some difficult $$ problems. I received an eviction notice and had to appear in court. (IL) When my lease came up in August they allowed me to renew it with an additional security deposit. Now that my lease is up again, they are choosing not to renew it. I applied at another complex and they told me 'NO' due to a judgement against me. Every place I have contacted said 'If you have a judgement against you we will not rent to you'. I am running out of time and I need help. What do I do now?

Pay off the judgment or keep looking until you find a landlord who doesn't screen tenants very well. Make sure you get renter's insurance though. Who knows whom you'll be living next to?

I did...but it shows on my credit report. I had even explained the situation to them when I applied. Any other suggestions would be helpful. I do appreciate your rapid reply.

My response:

The only other suggestion that I can think of, and perhaps even Tracey will concur, is for you to find a cosigner for the lease; someone with good credit and who will be financially responsible in the event of a default on the lease. Otherwise, you may have to move in with a relative or start pitching a tent.
