My husband and I have been living in our apartment for almost 4 years, and have never been late on rent, except for last year when I received a hot check from my boss, but, I ended up paying our landlord a late fee and the rent in cash. Now, again I'm waiting for funds from my boss, whom I do not work for anymore and he has yet to pay me. Our rent is due on the 1st and still my husband and I have no money to pay the rent. We live in Colorado and have no idea what the ramifications of the rental laws here. Can someone please let us know. Thank you!

I'd suggest that you explain it to the landlord, show him proof, and most important, tell him how you will be getting the money to pay him soon, family, friends, etc.
