I live in Florida. I own my home. My boyfriend has lived with me for several years, but we are now breaking up. He has refused to leave my house. The police say there is nothing they can do. Can I get into trouble if I remove all his belongings and change the locks?

YES.... he is a legal tenant and must be evcited in court.....

The law provides STIFF penalties to REDNECKS like you who screw with peoples living spaces.

You must start the evcition proceedures and keep a paper trail.

Does he pay rent? Do you have joint property? or a joint checking account?

Has he beat you up? is there drugs in the house? then of course call the police and have him arreseted...it would make things easier..

Ignore Happy...YES, unless you have given him rights as tenant - charged rent, etc. then he has status as "guest" or "invitee" and you can remove his items and change locks. Go one step further and get a "restraining order" if you think he is violent and nowhere, and I mean nowhere, infer that he has paid portion of mortgage, etc and give him status as tenant.

He can pay household expenses, utilities, food, upkeep and still not be a tenant and have L-T rights.
