I live in NJ and my landlord has filed for eviction. I haven't paid rent because I have discovered that I have rats and I have asked my landlord to fix the problem and have gotten no response. I need to know what will happen when I go to court. Will I be evicted that day what is the process in NJ. Please help.

Thanks

well what proof do you have?

have you sent and letters to the landlord?

have you bought any rat traps or rat poison and found a few dead ones and took pictures to PROVE your claims?

If not you might as well pay the rent by court time...Pay it to the landlord in court....YOU MUST show up for your court date or you will lose by default and a sherriff or marshall will come a knocking say in a week or so.

So learn to document everything....THEN withold the rent if the landlord does nothing!
