What is the name of your state? Missouri
I am the manager of a group home for people with develomental disabilities. The Department of Mental Health oversees the house. We recently had 3 employees quit. Within 2 days of them quitting, the state received claims that myself and my boss were neglecting the clients medical needs. The state launced an investigation about the house and interviewed a number of current employees and ex-employees. Through their questioning, another ex-employee made a huge list of false allegations against me, my boss, the house I manage, and 2 of my current employees, saying that abuse/negelct was occuring regularly. The state is now doing a second investigation because of the claims these people made.
We have received the results of the first investigation, and they found none of the allegations against me and my boss to be true. The second investigaiton is still ongoing. I do not believe that the state will find any of the allegations against me, the house, my boss, or the current employees to be true. The allegations they made were serious, and if the state had found any truth in them, everyone under investigation would never be able to work in any field that required taking care of people. Basically, all of our lives would be ruined.
If every allegation made against all of us is unfounded, what are our legal rights against these 3 individuals? Can we sue them for slander or does some sort of liability have to occur before slander is a possibility? What is the name of your state?
