What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

I worked for a company for 4 years. When I left, I gave 3 weeks notice, and left on good terms. Or so I thought. A few weeks ago, I bumped into a mutual aquaintance who started woking for the company I left. When they bought my name up, one of the employees said "He was a piece of sh*t. he was fired for being incompetent!" Another employee in another department started saying I was fired as well. First off, I was never fired. I left to take a better job. These employees are making false claims. If my current employer hears these rumors, I could see them possibly questioning me wether they're true or not (they're not true). First off, could I sue the company since the employees are making these slanderous statements? Or do I sue the individuals? I would prefer to go to the hgher ups in the company first to let them know what the employees are saying, and see if they can put a stop to it. However, I can see them sweeping it under the rug.

How would your current employer here about these rumors anyway? From your post it sounds like these people are expressing their personal opinions about you and nothing in your post seems defamatory. Remember, an opinion isn't defamation we all have an opinion and right to free speech. If these people made specific defamatory statements about you which in turn affected your current employment relationship then you may have an issue. As long as the statements are absolutely false. if a person makes slanderous statements about you that are "true", even if it affects your reputation or job, you don't have much recourse.

IF you lose your job and IF you can prove that these former co-workers' accusations were the DIRECT result of that loss, THEN MAYBE you will have a claim.

until then, nada.
