I am in Los Angeles, California

My ex-husband and I were divorced several years ago-our divorce decree stated that he is fully responsible for the debt of a home we had purchased together. My name was removed from the title of the property-now I find out that he never refinanced or assumed the loan, which would have released me of any responsibilty should he default on the mortgage. He now refuses to do this as he doesn't want to spend the money to refinance. As it stands now, I have no legal right to the property yet I could be responsible for the loan. I'm afraid to purchase another home as it could be in jeopardy, should he default on the loan. Do I have any legal recourse to force him to do whatever is necessary to get my name removed from the loan since our divorce decree states that I am not responsible in any way, shape or form for the property?
