A police officer called my house looking for my ex-husband stating that he has a warrant out on him for failure to appear in court. Is there a way that I can find out if there is still a warrant out for his arrest? My ex is trying to come and see my daughter and he claims that he don't know anything about the warrant.

No....in answer to your ACTUAL question....You are his EX......you have no right to that information as to his personal life/actions. You can only involke the "Freedom of Information Act" upon his conviction of the crime(s)
"Actuality must precede potentiality in all cases"

If she had no right to know then were the police acting improperly when they call and tell her they have a warrant for him?

Actually there were acting improperly for not only telling her there was a warrent but also what it was for. My ex had a warrent out for his arrest last December and I'm still yet to find out for what. The police wouldn't tell. In fact when I called to give them possible addresses (they had gone to one of his sisters house and she called me to give me the news) they wouldn't even confirm there was one and told me they couldn't give out that information. I am much in her same boat just that my ex doesn't use his visitation. I'm sure he knows I know about it though because I went to his town and drove around and talked to his friends and let them know so I"m sure they told him.

I should add that once she knows the warrent has been served she can get a police report. That is public record. A friend of mine's son's dad went to jail for drugs, the police came to her house to ask a few questions. She went the next day and got the police report from when he was arrested.

After he is arrested it is no longer "potentiality" it is an "actuality",hence the reason you see "Blotter Reports" in your local paper of who got arrested for what.

You might want to try something that I found tonight but yet to try. I did a search through the county government and they use a system called Civicnet. For a fee you can look up reports on people, civil criminal or what not. You should be able to find what offense he was under when he failed to appear. Sorry I can't be more help.

To give you an idea here's the link to mine. https://www.civicnet.net/citizen/index.jsp?crjustname
