i live in montana. my landlord from about 3 years ago has turned an account in my name over to collection. this collection agency is now taking me to court for the money. the catch of the thing is though is while residing in their residence i tried to pay them the rent and they refused to take it! they took me to court to pay the amount. the judge at the time ruled that i could pay them the money and it was at their discretion to let me stay or i could take my money and move. i was served with papers to go to court and want to fight it on principal. i tried to pay them and they refused to take it, the owners have sold the property and the manangers at the time got fired about 2 months after i moved out. what do you recommend? do i have the grounds to proceed or should i just pay them. the amount in question is about 700.00. also i have witnesses that i took with me to pay my rent when they refused. they refused to give me an apartment stating that they had none available. i however in reading the local newspaper found an ad in the paper the day after they told me this that their were rentals available and i went back and asked which apartment was mine. i could talk to them or me and my attorney could talk about this. they sent the police to my house several times for loud music from a stereo that police agree was not in my home. they would contstantly come to my house and say the police were looking for me. i would go to the police dept and no one had tried to contact me. the point is they did not want me to live there in the first place. what should i do please help?
