What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ
Hi. Ex had a liver transplant 3 mos. prior to our divorce being finalized. At the time of divorce Ex claimed to be permanently physically disabled and claimed to be applying to SS. Ex had been self-employed and was waaaay behind in taxes of any kind (believe it was 15 yrs behind). I was supposed to be kept in the loop as to his SSDI application efforts as I was awarded custody of our son and my Ex was not assigned to pay support. Instead, if approved for SSDI, I would receive a portion of that on my son's behalf.
Subsequently I was advised Ex denied as he had not paid into SSDI (wouldn't he have been eligible under my SSN?) and he was applying to VA. VA then denied him as not permanently disabled. Ex then advised he applied for SSI. Told me he was denied as he received too much in alimony ($1666.67 mo/$20k annually).
However, my son recently mentioned that Dad is receiving medicaid, has a food stamp card and has a disability card that some stores honor by providing a menial discount.
Other than going to court, is there any way for me to learn if my Ex is, in fact, receiving SSDI?
