I evicted my roommate and on the day he left he stole everything in the house. He smashed up things in the house and punched holes in the walls before he left also. What can I do legally to make him pay for what he has done? Can his parents' or friends' be prosecuted for harboring materials that they know are stolen?

My response:
Did you file a police report of the damages and theft? Do you have renter's/homeowner's insurance? You can sue him in small claims court and, no, his parents are not on the hook UNLESS he's a minor. Then they would be responsible for his "malicious acts."
All of the people in my building are insane. The guy above me designs synthetic hairballs for ceramic cats. The lady across the hall tried to rob a department store... with a pricing gun... She said, "Give me all of the money in the vault, or I'm marking down everything in the store."
