What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Utah

Hi, my fiance and I have been dating for four years, engaged for six months. He was married to his ex-wife for just under a year, they have been divorced for almost 5 years. They divorced because it just didn't work out. No horror stories, it just wasn't working out. So...

We are LDS and would like to get married in an LDS temple. To do this we need to go through our bishop. Recently, his ex-wife has been accusing my fiance of stalking her. This is not true. Someone from her family has called our bishop and made untrue accusations about him. They have said he commited adultry. This is not true and it is slowing down and possibly stopping our temple marriage. Is what she is doing illegal? Is this slander? Please help. We just want her to leave us alone.

It is not illegal nor slander,

If you both have your temple reccomends and he doesn't admit to adultry, you will be ok, because LDS may have some internal programs to counsel abusive relationships etc. but when push comes to shove, they will side with the man without regard to his guilt or innocense against a woman, or against a non member. I know of an instance where a disabled person was beaten by her brother who was LDS, who's reason for beating her was because he thought it was ok for her to have been beaten by her exhusband and so beat her while trying to get out of the house, and failed to get her medical assistance for her, locking her in the house, she escaped and went to a neighbors house who was a police officer and to the hopsital from there. When the disabled woman called the LDS contact person to get counseling for her brother rather than press civil charges against her brother, so he could get help because he obviously had some need of counseling to believe it was alright to beat a disabled person, she asked for confidentiality, instead they contaced him and she was futher abused because they really don't protect women or disabled persons when there is a choice or if they are not LDS and this was done at stake level.

Moral of this is you can always have a civil marriage if you want whether or not you have a temple marriage or can get a temple marriage later. If there is any truth to the charges, most likely you will still be allowed the temple marriage as long as he doesn't admit to the abuse, but later when he abuses you and or your children and you ask for assistance, they will take his side against you, so you may not want to get into a marriage with a person like this. His track record of a 1 year marriage is not good for LDS.
