My son is from Iowa, and his exwife is taking him to small claims court over some medical bills for the kids which date back to 1989. He wants to know how far back she can go. She is digging up old bills, that might have already been paid. She expects him to pay her the money she claims he owes to doctors. He has told her that if she can produce actual doctor bills he will pay the doctors, but not her. For all he knows some of these bills might be hers, instead of the kids.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

According to my cursory research, Iowa statute of limitations is (in years):
One site Another Site
Open Account 4 5
Oral 4 5
Written 5 10
Promissory Notes 5 5

In any case, debts that are beyond the SOL can be challenged.
