What is the name of your state? Missouri

Long story short, I moved to MO to live with a guy. After a few months, I went on a 2 week vacation to Washington (where I now reside) to see my family and during that time, he called and broke up with me, telling me not to come back. He has

1) my keys to my car (registered in MO, btw) and the house we shared, which contains everything I own (clothes, furniture, etc)

2) all my legal papers (tax and account info, social security card, divorce papers, birth certificate, my kid's birth certificate and social security card, my car title)

3) posession of my Jeep (title is in MY name only...he is the designated POD beneficiary, however).

He has ceased all contact with my (won't return calls, letters, emails. His family has ceased all contact with me. I'm concerned that he is driving my Jeep and I'll be liable for any accidents that may incur (I had cancelled insurance coverage on it since I was no longer able to drive it). I want to give the Jeep to a friend of mine who lives in MO, but he won't return her calls so she can get the keys, vehicle and title.

Legally, what can be done to get this vehicle out of his hands? If I report it stolen, will it be towed to impound? Can my friend then get it from there? Will they (the police) also recover the keys so she can drive it out of impound? And what recourse do I have to get my other possessions back (since I do not have access to the house that contains it all)?

I wouldn't report it "stolen," since he didn't steal it - you left it there.

It sounds like you're going to have to go back to get your stuff. If he won't return your things, call the police and ask them to go over to his place with you.

best course of action in my opinion is to make arrangements with the police department to escort you to the house and allow you to collect your belongings. make sure you bring a Uhaul or something adequet to take everything at this time. Chances are they wont let you do that over and over so its best to get everything at once.

if this dont work take him to court to get your things ... Judge Judy comes to mind shes a riot and dont take no crap lol

My response:

Didn't you know? This is what Missouri Dufus Hillbillies do to people. That's how they get whatever they have!! Let me guess - - there's a trailer in your story, too.

You must have REALLY pissed this guy off . . . well, on second thought, it doesn't take much. They look for any reason to abscond with other people's property.

I hope you've learned a big lesson about Dufus State people.

My response:

It's always been on the "list". It's in the South, a river runs through it, trailers abound, and it has Hillbillies. The only reason why I don't mention it very much is due to the fact that the names of States like Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee give the reader a "better" typical, Dufus, mental picture.

When Missouri is mentioned, people think of St. Louis, Samuel Clemens, Harry S. Truman, and the Gateway Arch to the West. But, make no mistake - - Missouri is, nonetheless, one of the Dufus States.

You forgot, Arkansas and So MO share the Ozarks, you can't tell So MO from Arkansas. ;)

My response:

No, I didn't forget. It's just that there are SO many distinguishing factors that separate the Northern States from the Dufus Southern States, it would have taken me hours to mention them all.

Take, for example, the people with buck teeth and missing teeth. But, closer to our hearts, wouldn't you say that the original writer's problem is a fairly typical occurrence of the Dufus States?

It wasn't a rocket scientist who come up with the motto "Show Me"!

To add some accuracy they should call it The "Show Me State", then "Show Me Again", and "Again" and "Again" and "Just One More Time",,,,,,,

A few more simpletons and they would have been "OK" just like their Dufus neighbors...

Outonbail's definition of a Dufus state: Any state where the total population continues to increase while the sum of the total population's IQ's, remains a constant.
