exboyfriend and i in a car dispute

help, i am getting ready to take my exboyfriend to court over a car issue. i moved in with him in april and had my own car i had been paying for, it was in my name only. we traded it off for a car that was in his name because i wasnt working and we were planning on being married.
do i have a chance at all at recovering the value of my car in small claims? he is telling me he is gonna counter sue me for taking a "loss" on it.
