I have a "merchandise certificate" from a national catalog/mail order company for $15. The card states that "this certificate cannot be redeemed on our website" which is where I do ALL of my transactions with this company. The date of the certificate is 12/25/01.
I emailed them and requested that they either allow me to use it online, or send me a $15.00 refund check. Their response follows:
Thank you for your e-mail.
I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The club refund certificates are only valid for 1 year from the date listed
on the certificate.
If you need further assistance, please reply to this email or call us at
1-800-XXX-XXXX and one of our Customer Service Representatives will be
happy to help you.

We appreciate your business and look forward to hearing from you again
soon.
They are located in Virginia. Whose laws apply and can they expire my certificate, even though it says nothing to that effect?
