Expungement

Attorney Martin,

I was convicted of a misdemeanor 2 yrs. ago for domestic violence. I plead no contest, and received a sentence of 1 yr. probation and expensive fines. I also had to complete a program. I completed all the above and have changed my life for the better, but now I have been turned down for jobs by companies because of my record. It is hard for an educated, professional to get an excellent job with this on your record. Recently, I also was turned down for auto insurance from Traveler's Insurance because of the misdemeanor. What I need to know is in Ohio, how do you get a 1st time offense expunged. I want to go on with my life. My spouse and I get along better than ever. I have grown from the whole ordeal. I would like to know the procedures I should take, so I don't have to take off 5 days of work to get the expungement done if possible. Thanks for you time and consideration.

We'd like to help, but this is one that is not easy (if so you and everyone else would have done it). Obviously the Governor can grant a pardon, but short of that there are lots of state laws that may set out what it takes -- and the short answer is it is very hard. VERY!
