I live in alabama.

I do internet marketing for a living. Here is the problem I am facing.

I was doing affiliate work for a Cost Per Action network. They paid me a fixed amount based on leads I generated for the advertiser. The network is like a middle man.

When it was time to get paid, I got paid fine, but the day after, the person over my account at the network told me I had to pay the money back, because the advertiser said I committed lead fraud. They said the leads came from an un-approved source. Regardless of if it was lead fraud or not, this is the problem I face. My manager DID pay me the money, but did not get paid himself. The advertiser said they do not pay for fraudulent leads. So, My manager told me to send him the money back, or he would take legal action. I was threatened with jail. I just want to know if I can actually serve jailtime for this, if I didn't pay, or if it is a civil suit.

Am I required to pay my manager the money?

well, I guess I DO have to pay it back. I do not have the full amount. Is it still 100% my fault even though I got paid, then they waited a few days before saying anything to me?

It seems like they should be somewhat responsible for paying someone for work without having the money themselves. I think they should have checked with their employer first, before paying out for the work.

**A: it does not matter what they should have done. You owe the $$$.
