Ok.. I may be almost done bugging you guys.. Thanks alot for all the help with everything. I really do appreciate it.

My Ex- is going to file in NC, which is going to include sending me a summons to a court date.. What happens if I don't show up to that court date, or answer the summons? The distance makes it a little tricky, and if not appearing will simply cause the courts to determine that I am not interested in fighting for anything, then that is probably what I will do.. There really isn't anything to fight over, but I want this over as soon as I can posibly get it..

It is NEVER a good idea to ignore any summons. You can simply file a reply to the petition/summons stating that you do not contest any issue.

You do not have to appear, but it's always a good idea to at least acknowledge the summons. Actually, it can speed up the process. :)

Q: What happens if I don't show up to that court date, or answer the summons?

A: The court will assume that the person who didn't show up doesn't care what the other person wants; so the other person (who does show up) will get a default judgment for whatever legal stuff the appearing person wants.
