What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

The traffic violation is in Newark, NJ
The car I was driving isn't mine.
The car was insured during the time the ticket was written, but it wasn't in the car.
I have a court date.

What do I do?
The ticket says I have to tell the court 7 days prior to the court date if I want to plea not guilty. Do I plea guilty?
Can this ticket get dropped if I bring the insurance card and registration to court on the court date?

Never plead guilty unless you have legal counsel as to the implications otherwise. If you want to have any consideration of the judge, you pretty much must plead not guilty. Pleading guilty on NJ traffic tickets is surrendering and agreeing to pay the fine and be subject to the appropriate surcharges.

While the judge is under no obligation to do so, most will offer some relief if you bring proof that you were insured on the date of the offense.

If you were charged with 39-3:29 then you should bring your license, registration and insurance card to court. These documents must match the information on the traffic ticket.

The charge >may< be dismissed by the judge - his discretion. If the charge is dismissed then you will probably end up paying just court costs, which are relatively minor.
