If a person fakes their death and doesn't cash in their life insurance what consequences if any will occur?

Faking one's death is a crime, whether a particular state defines it as an obstruction of justice, interference with governmental operation, etc. It is costly to investigate and cops and DAs get real angry when it comes to someone wasting scarce government resources. If in the couse of investigation someone is injured, that's even a greater crime.

Attempting to cash in a policy on the basis of a faked death would be criminal fraud.

Fake death

I agree, there must be a reason why someone has faked their death. This could be because of avoiding criminal or civil liability. This is usually a cut and dry case that can be easily plead.
