What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MN

Hey there.. I am in a interesting situation.. long story short, I financed some vehicles through a local credit union using my paystub but put my brothers name on them. Essentially using my pay but his credit since it was better. He knew about it. We are now in a situation where we may have to default on the loans. I am curious what kind of repercussions I am facing if the credit union realizes the pay stub was altered? Thx!

Who is "we?" While likely nothing is going to happen other than your credit being trashed and your cars repoed (note that most credit union cross colateralize everything so you may find all your accounts attached and your vehicles siezed). Of course, what you did is, in fact, a crime. A felony even. If your brother helped you, he's guilty as well.

If you here from the police or prosecutor, decline to speak to them until you have counsel of an attorney (who will most likely tell you to say nothing anyhow).

We meaning me my brother an I.. He knew I was financing in his name but had nothing to do with submitting the false paystubs.

There was never an intent to defraud.. as we never expected to not be able to make the payments. I suppose that doesn't matter though. I did contact a few lawyers and am waiting a reply. I think at this point I need to do whatever possible to keep the loans current and avoid the credit union prying.

Really? Then what, exactly, was your intent? To practice your white-out skills? You knew you wouldn't be able to get the car with legitimate documentation, so you falsified the docs in order to defraud the seller.

Umm... you did have an intent to defraud. You used a forged instrument to get the other party to act on that misrepresentation. It's forgery under Minnesota law (for both of you if he helped). It's also possible that you can be charged under the identity theft statute.

If you were in the habit of meeting all your financial obligations, you wouldn't have to use someone else's credit. So yeah, there's a reason why they would not have given you financing - what else is new?
