I live in Maryland, a family in my neighborhood has filed 2 false police reports and had an attorney that a family member works for to send a very threatening letter to me under the same falsehoods. This was done both times when I tried to resolve an on going problem by speaking to the parents about their older son bullying my son and younger children in the neighborhood and stealing their bikes and toys. They will not take responsibility for their childs actions and tries to intimidate anyone who does. What recourse do I have?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

Well, if you can somehow prove through evidence the kids were bullying your children and stealing from them, then you have a possible defamation claim against the neighbors and a lawsuit against the lawyer for knowingly contributing to that.

If they got an attorney, then you need to get one to protect your own interest.

Try attorneypages.com or call your local bar association and ask for lawyer referral.

What type of evidence would I have to have? The only thing I have is witnesses to this particular incident. Would that be construde as he said she said, I want something concrete and binding. They are obviously using this as a scare tactic to keep me from complaining about their children. There are other people in the neighborhood who have had similar problems, one neighbor(woman) even had a warrant put out on the father because of a phyisical confrontation that broke out after one incident (the warrant can only be served on him if he's caught on another violation though, since the police said it wasn't done in their presents, are you familiar w/that??? And how could I find out if that warrant was still outstanding, is there a time limit on those?
quote:
Originally posted by lawrat:
