What is the name of your state? West Virginia

This contains two questions, one of which I have no idea what category it would belong in, the other is defamation of character.

A few months ago, the mother of a child I provide care for had CPS investigate my household (which included entering my home twice for interviews) based upon a false report.

Basically, I had reported that this child has had an ongoing ringworm infection for over a year, and even though I treat it when I have her, the mother refuses. I have had it 7 or 8 times, my children have had it, and my relatives have had it because of this. My three-year-old daughter actually had it so close to her eye that she almost had to be put on anti-fungal oral medication, which causes liver damage.

Anyway, I took the child to the doctor, who prescribed a topical cream. The paper prescription was given to the mother, she then filled it and sent it back to my house with the child.

After I filed my report with CPS, the mother filed a report stating that I was giving the child "unecessary medication for ringworm" that could be harmful to her health. Upon investigation, the CPS workers realized that the mother had filed a false report and sent me a final report stating that no child abuse had occured.

My problem is that on this report it also states that any background check performed on me will show that I have been investigated for child abuse. First question: Is there any way to remove this from my record? I am worried that this will prevent me from getting a job.

Second question: If this prevents me from gaining employment, do I have any legal recourse?

There are thousands of posts similar to yours so I have prepared a standard answer:

Get a lawyer.

Invest $20K and three years.

Sue the bad people for defamation.

If you win, expect them to keep doing it.

If you lose, expect them to keep doing it.

Stand by for other opinions.

Yeah, that's about what I expected. lol.

I was really just hoping there was some way I could get this removed from my record considering it was proven to be an intentional false report. Not that the person who did it was ever prosecuted, but I didn't really expect that would happen either. Life is good for the criminal.
