A few years ago I worked retail in the state of Georgia. I was accused of theft, but the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence(because I was innocent). Because I was accused and not found guilty I had the right to sue in small claims court. There is, however, a time limit on this (about a year). I was wondering if there is the possibility of extending this time frame if this arrest continues to affect you years later(2years). I am graduating with my master's degree in social work and have to do criminal background checks to get employment. Thanks to these false charges I now have a criminal history. Is there any way I can sue(in small claims) for damage or sue for the cost of expungement(even after the time frame).

No, and yes.

No, you can't 'go back' to the small claims court.
Yes, you can request expungement of the record, but it must be done in a higher court. And the process is not easy, simple or cheap. You will need to hire an attorney who could explain the process to you.
