What is the name of your state? PA

My ex-boyfriend had me followed by a private investigator. Apparently, the investigator provided him with false information - names of people I slept with, with times, dates, locations and pictures. I have not seen the pictures or anything else. I did not sleep with anyone at all so I know this is false information. I am not sure if the investigator followed the wrong person or if he falsified information. Do I have any recourse? Can I sue the investigator for defamation of character or anything else? My ex said that he could not give me the name of the investigator or show me any pictures or other information because he signed a contract with the investigator saying he would not disclose anything to anyone else. How can I get the name of the investigator and is the contract he signed binding, even for the person who was investigated? If I am able to sue, would a lawyer take the case on a contingency basis? I am infuriated!

Thanks! What is the name of your state?

Perhaps your boyfriend is blowing smoke to see how you react. I seriously doubt however, that he was given any false pictures, if in fact he has actually hired a PI. They are paid to investigate, not create, the money is the same, why would they bother framing you???

No, I don't think he is lying about it. And, I don't think the investigator neccessarily "created" photos, but maybe he followed the wrong person. Isn't that possible? How else could he list locations that I haven't been to or report things like I have been to one person's house 6 times and another person's house 4 times, when, in fact, I have not. I know what I have done - I don't have blackout episodes! And, I absolutely did not go to the locations he reported or to any other man's home on any occassion. So what else could it possibly be except he tailed the wrong person?

Has your boyfriend looked at the pictures?? Surely he knows what you look like??

No, he has not seen photos yet. He has just been told that photos exist. He has not seen the full report yet. I think he has to pay the balance to receive the full report and he can't pay that right now.

I sense that you doubt what I am saying and that's what is so frustrating: to be accused of something I know I didn't do and to have no ability to defend myself or take action against the individuals providing the wrong information. Why would I even post here if I actually did what I am accused of doing? Maybe I am jumping the gun, since he hasn't gotten the report in full yet, but just hearing about it and listening to the erroneous details is exasperating. I immediately wanted to do something to rectify the situation and that's why I am here.

The contract is between your bf and the PI. YOU, as the subject do not have any claim against the PI (or your BF) simply because they investigated you.

If I am able to sue, would a lawyer take the case on a contingency basis? I am infuriated!
What EXACTLY are your damages.

Being infuriated is not damages.

Their is no law against a lawyer taking your case on contingency, but it would be EXTREMELY unlikely and absent provable damages you don't have much of a case.

Bottom Line:

You are mad that the PI, who was HIRED BY YOUR BOYFRIEND, is wrecking your relationship with Mr. Wonderful...

Dump your sleazy BF and forget about any easy money just because you are furious. :p
