What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey.

I have a 16 year old daughter who just recently was witnessed by police, physically attacking me when I took her cell phone privileges away. My younger daughter (6yr old) saw her sister on top of me & call 911! The police entered the house witnessing my teenage daughter on top of me! Officer told her to STOP but she would not get up, still trying to get her phone out my hand now with me on the living room floor face down. Again, the officer said STOP then she got off me. Now, police dept. has filed report on 16 year old female assaulting parent. I was informed that we will have to appear before Family court. Being that this will be a public record, will this now impede me (I am a licensed school administrator!) professionally and will this also impede my daughter's academic record, considering her chances when applying to higher education institutions?

It probably won't have much impact on you, but it could certainly affect your daughter's record. You should get her an attorney.

Your daughter's lack of control over her anger and her disregard for authority will have a hugely negative impact on her future.

I'm not a lawyer, but I thought juvenile and family court proceedings were confidential.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The records are sealed. Even a non-custodial parent can't get them. I know this first hand. The only way to see them is by court order.

Unless it's law enforcement-- they would have access.
