What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ca
My father passed away last week and had no actual will. He was living at an exes house while on hospice. He had been living in Missouri and came back to cali to die. The exes family(adult children) all of a sudden have complete Control of my dads possessions. And all of a sudden they want to discuss "his wishes" and believe that it will all be fair! They say he had a list they worked on as far as his things. By the way my Dad was never married to their mom. How do i go about retrieving his things?

You file for administration of his estate in state where he was a true resident ...hopefully it has a aimplifi d process for small estates....under intestacy ones unmarried ex gets zero and in general his children get it all, after any bills and taxes are paid
