What is the name of your state? Doesn't matter

Went awol, did the whole Ft. Sill deal, etc.

Have a nice job with a financial company, passed a federal background check required for brokerage firms. No sweat.

Looking at a few different federal jobs, wondered if my options are limited, or none at all.

(My thought would be "none", but a guy I was at Sill with is a CO at a Florida Prison...so...)

why the heck would you want a fed job after you saw the lovely bureaucracy of the army? i mean you ran from the gov, now you want to work for those crazy people?? :D

Border patrol is federal law enforcement. With appropriate background checks. The OTH can be used to disqualify you or, more to the point, would place you in the bottom wrung of applicants.

However, as far as I am aware, it is, in and of itself, not a disqualifier. That said, if you fail to disclose it in the application process, the background check will reveal that, and not being truthful during the application process will result in your not getting the job.

You hold a valid point. However, on my defense...I didn't really run. :) I simply hopped ina car and drove away.

Seriously, AWOL was the biggest mistake of my life. Not due to job oppertunities (yet) or anything of that nature, but because of the regret I live with EVERY day. I think about the Army every day, I dream about it, I wish I could go back. I wish they would TAKE me back. I thrived in that environment every day, and if not due to the family problems I had to deal with, would have never left. People say every day on this board "why did you sign the contract?!" Because I WANTED to be there! Still do! In reality, my daughter's well being was much more important than a contract.

Really would like border patrol or something along those lines, because it's the closest thing to the military I'll ever be able to see again.

Maybe state police?

listen to what badapple said!!! You very much possibly could be a state trooper or a border patrol agent , but if you lie about your "oth" and they hire you and then they somehow find out about it after, they can terminate you with no reprecussions. You need to be honest up front, good luck.

A clean thread!

1. Ask question
2. A few people (with intelligence) respond
3. Say Thank You (See below)
4. Close thread.
5. The End!

Thanks to all input. :)
