What is the name of your state? NY City

Cansomeone explain to me or direct me as to where I can find someone to speak with about this issue;

I just noticed on the second paycheck of my new job that pays $400 more than my last job and has yet to take out the monthly cost for health benefits that I am making $81 less! I am claiming the same amount of dependents (3) and I also see that that the difference lies in the Federal tax ($82) and changed a "bit" ($4) in the NYC taxes. Wait, again, that doens't make sense, does it?

well, as I was saying, is there someone who can help me to figure this out? Once they start taking out Health benefits of a whooping $135 a month, I'm SCREWED!! Sometimes, I feel like I just can't go on like this.

Also, how often do you get paid? Is it a different number of days per check than your last job? Contact your payroll department if your hourly wage is not what you expected it to be.

What is the mystery?

You have higher income, you will owe more tax. You owe more tax, your withholding will be higher.

Give the IRS WithholdingCalculator a spin:

ANTEATER guess what? it IS a mystery to me! If it wasn't "friend" I wouldn't be here inquiring the insight from you kind people.

SRG, Everything is indeed the same. The paycheck comes every two weeks (bi monthly payments) and as I'm sure you saw from my original post, I was claiming 3 dependents then and the same now.

So if you ask me?? It is indeed a mystery. I find it baffleing that I'm making $81 less with a higher salary that has yet to deduct the benefits. Again, my previous place of employment paycheck was higher on a lower salary which also included the benies.
How the heck does that compute?

BTW, anteater, if it is clear to you could you please spell it out to me?

The paycheck comes every two weeks (bi monthly payments)

You aren't making any sense: Every two weeks would mean 26 checks per year while bi- monthly would be 24 checks per year. If you are paid on a bi-weekly basis in your new job versus a bi-monthly basis in your old job, then your checks could now be lower.

It is impossible to guess without acutally running the numbers. One possibility is that you were getting EIC before and are not now.

Only if you make clear what this means:
I just noticed on the second paycheck of my new job that pays $400 more than my last job..... I also see that that the difference lies in the Federal tax ($82) and changed a "bit" ($4) in the NYC taxes....
I take that to mean that your paycheck gross is $400 higher, the federal tax (withholidng? FICA?) is $82 higher and NYC tax is $4 higher.

Ya know, a little tact could go a long way Mister Darcy. saying to someone..."you're not making ANY sense" really can put a person on the defensive. another way to communicate what you want to say and offer help, rather than criticsim, would be to say, "I think you might have meant to say...bla, bla ,bla" or "what you're saying is not making sense to me because...bla,bla, bla"

In the mean time my Pops and I are figuring out the issue. I did indeed make a mistake by saying bi monthly when i meant to say bi weekly. Sue me!

Anteater:" I take that to mean that your paycheck gross is $400 higher"
me: it is yes, the gross slary amount is a mere $400 higher YEARLY! I know pittles, but some of us are scrougning social workers.

me: uhm, yes?

ANYWAY! update at this moment! The HR guy at the office I'm working at got so frustrated with my questions he passed my call over to the book keeper. HR guy was dead sure I was being a plain-ole-pain-in-the-ROMP-ola! But when the book keeper looked closely guys, she saw that the payroll company had put my paperwork in as ZERO dependents opposed to the THREE dependents I've always claimed!! YUP! HE SHOULD have eaten humble pie indeed! but he didn't. I did though, I said I understood how stressed out he is and that as long as I know I'm not CRAZY!!
so, again...
THANKS GUYS!
and BTW...
Thanks for your comments and attempt at helping me, kind people. For the most part I get a lot of good advice here when seeking it.

I must confess though, I go on other forums, "help" ones as well, and I've noticed even the computer nerds out there who are labeled as socially inept and the such are more polite than many of the people on this site. there is a ton of judgement and lots of condescending tones coming across in the responses. For the life of me I can't figure out why people think that form of communcation is acceptable and attractive. It certainly doesn't make anyone look smart. Wit, has nothing to do with arrogance; arrogance, however, has everything to do with narrow mindedness.
