i live in the state of iowa and am engaged to be married. my son is from a previous relationship--his father pays child support but has never had anything to do with him. i don't think there should be any problem with signing over his rights but don't know where to start. where does a person begin if you don't want to have to pay a lawyer--there really shouldn't be any problems with the father. thanks for your help!

With adoptions, it is VITAL to retain an attorney to have it done correctly. If the bio Father willingly will relinguish his rights, the process should be quick and not very expensive. (I would say between $1000-$2000, based on experience)

BUT.....You and your boyfriend need to get married first before you start this process.

Good luck!
