PA / NJ I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Got married 4 years ago w/o having Equifax's done on each other. This was my 2nd marriage, his 3rd - both had kids and he hates one of mine. Right after the marriage, he got very verbally abusive and he was about to lose his house & vehicle. I took out a loan (he had under 500 credit score so he couldn't get a loan) and we both signed a generic "I owe you" for the money. Now that he's moving out (we've been in marriage counseling since month 3) I want to put a lien on his house as he never tried to sell it, and never paid me for any of the money back (I'm a secretary). hHe makes twice I do but has no money anywhere saved. We reduced the amt. on the IOU to 15k (it was 24k, but I reduced it due to work he'd done on the house) but he has not helped pay for any of the bills for the past 8 months either.

I live in PA, his house is in NJ. Can I put a lien on his house? what are the first steps?

You can't put a lein on anything without a judgement and you'd be behind any mortgage holders on the house anyway (I'm guessing there's not much in the way of equity) so what would be the point?

so I'd have to go to court to get a judgement?

sorry, I am so clueless to this stuff. Would that be when I file for divorce or could I file a civil case? Which state would I file in? His house is in NJ but we were in my house for 4 years and that's when I loaned him the money ("promised" to get it back within weeks....yea, right)

What is the legal status of that property? Is it in foreclosure Have a mortgage? Is the mortgage in default?

he owns home

he has his home in his name and I have mine in my name. It was threatened foreclosure a few times but his name is the only one on the deed. He does have a mortgage and it does have other liens on it.

I did find out my answer, but did want to respond.

thank you!
