What is the name of your state? Indiana

I am contemplating filing for bankruptcy, but I would rather not if I don't have to. What can happen if I stop paying one of my credit card bills (unsecured Visa)?

Can they put a lien on my house or my car?

What is the likelihood they will try to get a judgment to recoop their losses. The bill has a balance of about $9,000.

Any suggestions???

For $9K, if the creditor is Discover, Citi, Sears or, Cap 1 your chance of being sued is about 100%.
Having said that, $9K is not worth filing bk.
