What is the name of your state? Oregon

My sister in law, who is young, may lose custody of her one year old baby boy to her ex-boyfriend, who is a manipulating horrible person...but he has money for a lawyer and seh does not... we are wondering what options we have as far as filing for custody on her behalf and what that means.. what kind of requirements would we have to meet personally and financially to give her a good case?

You can not file on her behalf .

The Only Parties to the Action are Her and the Father .

If you wish to help get her a Lawyer to represent her feel free .

Unless The Father is Unfit , and that Fact can be proven , he has a Right to request Custody .

as long as there are two parents for this child and one of them is found to be fit you really don't have a chance of being awarded custody

however you do have the option of pooling the family's resources and hiring an attorney for your sister
