Last year I worked as an employee for 6 mos. I then received unemployment for 3 mos, before starting to work as an independent contractor. What are my filing options for 2004 tax year?

If you earned more than $400 as an independent contractor, you are required to file.

or

If you are single and your total income was more than $7950 you are required to file.

Unemployment is taxable.
