Destroyed last check by mistake same day it was received. Thrown out with garbage into the bldg. compactor. Called lawyer next day to explain. Said a hold payment placed on original and new check would be sent out. This was 7 days ago. Have called office several times and told they're "working on it" each time.

Fed up with them. Who can I complain to now to get them to send out check? What else can I do?

You destroyed the check and now you have to wait, ...should have been more carefull if you needed it that bad.

2-4 weeks to wait for a replacement seems reasonable to me. Be more careful in the future.
