What is the name of your state? ARKANSAS
Well my first post didn't make it so here is the short version.
My wife attends a private universtiy and was just informed that since we had to move off campus for my job, she must forfeit her excess financial aid this next year. In the past students could receive a refund from excess aid whether on or off campus and we were never told anything different. They created and installed a new policy in the matter of a few weeks apparently this past semester. The policy is not even in print yet and will only be printed this fall in the new catalogues which are for NEW students anways. WE were never told about this possible policy coming up even though we had talked to financial aid plenty of times. There is nothing posted anywhere about financial aid being able to forfeit our aid or change it until about a week ago, long after I found out this policy was being grandfathered in and applied to my and myself. I am wondering if this is not a breech of contract or something like that as there was nothing established where they could do this and we were never told beforehand about any of it. The students who are already off campus will continue to receive their refunds but if you lived in campus housing last fall and move into non-campus housing in the fall then your affected. Also, the apartments at the school are on-campus but some of them are NOT owned by the school so there is no difference in living on and off campus basically. I have yet to talk to anyone who understands that I know my wife is being given a full ride and that is great but other students receive money to cover their expenses and food and since she already had those I don't see why they can decide to forfeit them now with no warning. The total amount is aroun 5000 for the year that will be forfeited back to the school. I would appreciate any help you can be, thanks.
