I was pulled over in UTAH and charged with being a minor in possession of alcohol. The sheriff noticed I had some cash on me and said that I could pay my fine in cash directly to him. I hesitated, but agreed as long as he provided me a descriptive receipt with his badge number and signature.
Can sheriffs or any officers collect fines on the spot?

thats a pretty silly story...you should sue them for approximately 1,980,000 dollars before your statute of limitations runs out
