there was a grease fire in our apartment (our fault) the landlord says their insurance will not pay for damage and it is our responsibility. i am trying to find out if this sounds right...also we do not have the money for repairs, is their anywhere we can go for financial assistance? thanks in advance for the help

*** Yep. You are liable to the owner for the damages caused by YOUR negligence.

*** You can certainly try to get a loan to cover their damages. Or you can approach your friends and family.

And I suggest you get renter's insurance. It's very inexpensive and obviously can come in quite handy.
