my parents just recently lost everything in a fire and the landlord has other properties available to rent. He would like my parents to pay the difference in rent. The fire destroyed everything and they need help. Are the landlords allowed to do this and do they have the right ? I just think that they are being very greedy !!! Please help....

Read the lease - does it obligate the landlord to provide similar housing at the same price? Does it say either party may void the lease if the house becomes unlivable? Chances are L can ask them to pay the extra rent.
