What is the name of your state? Michigan

I was recently fired for something that a fellow employee told the General Manager that I had said when in fact I did not say. What if any rights do I have in this. The General Manager is going on what this other person is claiming I said and not on the facts of the situation. He will not tell me who made this statement either but I have a pretty good idea of who it was and why they did it. All I want to know is what can I fight for in this? And how do I start the ball rolling?

Thank you

Check your state law. However, the answer you will likely find is that, unless you have an employent contract, your employer can fire you at any time without cause.

You could make attempts to find out who said what and sue for slander. If the slander is bad enough, it may qualify as "slander per se" or "defamation per se" which means generally:

imputations of criminal conduct

allegations injurious to another in their trade, business, or profession

imputations of loathsome disease

imputations of unchastity in a woman

You can base your compaint on your information and belief of facts and conduct discovery to find out more details.
