i worked at a company in nc for 3yrs and 8mths on 6/5/2001 i was asked by security to look into my purse.the security guard was laughing and i thought he was picking because i had broke my purse scrap.so i replied only if you buy me a new one.on6/6 when i return to work i asked the other 2 supervisors who worked in the same department were they asked they said no.i was also a supervisor in the production department.so i thought no more about it.on that same day around 2:30 i was told by my manager that i was terminated for not letting security look in my purse he also said that he was sure that i was not stealing, but because i didn,t he was letting me go.and if i needed a reference he would give me one because i did such a good job. i had never been wrote up for anything in the 3yrs there.i feel like iwas singled out because of a blood drive issue that i didn,t promote because of my religion. please tell me is this right or legal.

Discrimination?

Most people are employees at will and have no employment contracts or union contracts that protect them. That means that a boss can fire them at will for any legal reason other than discrimination on the basis of such things such as race, color, religion, etc. or no reason at all. So, the only grounds you would have against them would be that you were singled out because of religion. However, it does not sound like you could prove that. Nevertheless, you might consider discussing this with an employment lawyer in your state. Maybe there are enough facts to prove religious discrimination, or at least enough facts to support a bargaining position.
